Coordination & Decor: Kara and Devin’s Colorful, Disco Filled Wedding in Kansas City

I am SO EXCITED to finally share the pictures and details from Kara and Devin’s colorful, disco filled Kansas City wedding in June. The thoughtful, intentional, and fun details truly made this day one to remember.

Kara initially reached out to designwise KC for some decor pieces - our disco inventory was a perfect fit for their overall vibe and theme. After talking through some ideas, Kara and Devin ended up booking designwise KC for a custom large scale seating chart, our Katy pink and orange flower wall, disco balls for details, and day of event management and coordination. Read on for more about each curated rental item for Kara and Devin’s wedding day!

Custom Seating Chart

The couple wanted something unique for their seating chart, and when I found out that the bride loved Taylor Swift, and the couple shared a love of concerts + 70s/80s music, creating a vintage record themed seating chart was a no brainer!

The couple chose songs that they liked/related to their relationship, which served as the record labels and table numbers. The couple even went as far as to assign special songs to specific tables of friends and family. The seating chart title was an (obvious) nod to Taylor - At Every Table, I’ll Save You A Seat - from her song Lover.

The guests loved finding their names and songs on the seating chart during cocktail hour - a custom seating chart is a great way to show your guests to their seats in an interactive and meaningful way! (Also, thank you to Lilly Valley Press for assisting with the printing of the labels!)

The wedding had 12 tables, each with a different record/album instead of a table number.

The guest names were repeated around each record like the “record grooves”.

Katy Pink Flower Wall

Kara and Devin added our Katy pink, orange, and coral flower wall for their photo booth, supplied by Banana Who Booth. We hung a custom neon sign from the couple - Dancing in the Moonlight (another song nod) - to add the finishing touch! We think flower walls are such a fun photo booth upgrade from the standard backdrop, and highly recommend if you’re looking to add a little something extra to your photo booth experience!

Disco Ball Rentals

This one is pretty self explanatory: we needed disco balls for to add some shimmer! We included disco balls at the head table and a few places around the venue. The couples “dress code” was disco, so adding some extra disco details were a must!

Event Coordination and Management

While I’ve been an event planner for over a decade, I don’t normally take on wedding coordination. But when Kara asked, I thought this wedding would be a great fit for day of/month of coordination. I helped Kara and Devin the month leading up to the wedding, including creating the timeline, communicating with the vendors, and being onsite all day to make sure everything was set up and the day ran smoothly. The band and emcee for the night, Lost Wax, were a great help keeping things on track for the night, too.

So much joy from Kara and Devin all night.

Kara and Devin were so intentional throughout every part of their wedding - from their seating chart, to their signature cocktails, to how Kara had her bouquet toss - they were a joy to work with on their wedding day and after.
